Additional €10m for Respite Care Services

Minister McGrath secures an additional €10 million for respite care service. 12 December 2017 Minister of State with special responsibility for Disability Issues, Finian McGrath TD, today (12th December 2017) announced the securing of an additional €10 million for respite care. €8 million will provide for nine new dedicated houses for respite in each Community Health Area plus an additional three houses in the greater Dublin area to respond to the very high demand for respite from this part of the country. Public Consultation on Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards now open

Ministers Harris and McGrath announce opening of a Public Consultation on Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards Minister for Health, Simon Harris, TD, and Minister of State for Disability Issues, Finian McGrath, TD, today announced the opening of a public consultation on draft legislation relating to deprivation of liberty. The draft legislative provisions outline proposed safeguards for older people, persons with a disability and certain categories of people with mental health issues to ensure that they are not unlawfully deprived of their liberty in residential facilities. The Minister of State with special responsibility for Disabilities, Finian McGrath TD, today announced a €4.5m fund to support the reform of disability services. Recognition of ISL for the Deaf Community Bill 2016

Minister McGrath welcomed the passage of the Recognition of ISL for the Deaf Community Bill 2016 through the Seanad yesterday. This important legislation, published by Senator Mark Daly, not only formally recognises ISL as a distinct language but provides for access to interpretation services and extra supports that are essential for deaf, hard of hearing and deafened citizens.
