Dublin Bay North Childcare providers can avail of new funding

Dublin Bay North childcare providers can apply for support from a new national €4m fund, according to Independent TD for Dublin Bay North, Minister Finian McGrath. Minister McGrath said the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Dr Katherine Zappone, informed him that local crèches, community services and other childcare providers can apply for money for new places, maintenance and outdoor play areas. Minister Zappone says individual childcare centres can receive funding of up to €50,000 under the 2017 Early Years Capital Funding Scheme. Minister Finian McGrath welcomes Oireachtas approval for establishment of Commission of Investigation

  Minister of State for Disabilities, Finian McGrath TD, has welcomed the approval given today (9th March) by both Houses of the Oireachtas to the draft Order establishing a Commission of Investigation into the care and protection of Grace (pseudonym) and others in a former foster home in the South East, which has been the subject of abuse allegations. Medical cards for children on Domiciliary Care Allowance

Minister for Health Simon Harris together with Minister Finian McGrath today published the Health (Amendment) Bill which means that 9,800 children in receipt of a Domiciliary Care Allowance (DCA), who have a disability, will receive a full medical card. Commenting Minister Harris said; “I’m really pleased to be publishing this Bill today. There are 33,000 parents who receive DCA for their children, but 9,800 of these children currently do not have a full medical card. Publication of the Devine and Resilience Reports

Minister McGrath opens a new service for people with autism in Glasnevin

  Minister of State with special responsibility for Disabilities, Finian McGrath TD, today (Thursday 23rd February 2017), opened Botanic Horizons, a new service for people with autism, in the heart of Dublin’s Northside. Botanic Horizons is a service run by Autism Initiatives (ASDI). It is situated on Botanic Avenue, near the picturesque Botanic Gardens in Glasnevin. The building is an old HSE building which has been renovated and updated into a very modern centre for service users. Seven staff are employed at Botanic Horizons and the service provides day services and community outreach support for adults. EmployAbility Galway’s #100jobs campaign

  Minister of State with special responsibility for Disabilities, Finian McGrath TD, today (20th February 2017), visited EmployAbility Galway to announce the results of its #100jobs campaign. EmployAbility Galway is one of the 23 organisations that operate the EmployAbility service throughout the State. The EmployAbility service is a national employment and recruitment service dedicated to improving employment outcomes for job seekers with a disability.  It is based on the ethos that participation in employment can be achieved by people with a disability when they are able to avail of individualised supports that are based on their choices and preferences. Statement from Minister Finian McGrath regarding the 2017 National Service Plan provision of Personal Assistance & Home Support Hours Minister McGrath wishes to clarify the position regarding the 2017 National Service Plan provision of Personal Assistance & Home Support hours. The Personal Assistance target for 2017 is 1.4 million funded hours an increase of 100,000 hours over the 2016 target of 1.3 million hours. The Home Support target for 2017 is 2.75 million hours an increase of 150,000 hours over the 2016 target of 2.6 million hours. This is being supported by an additional budget of €5.5 million.
