Key Achievements

Key Achievements 2018 was a significant year for people with disabilities, most remarkably the ratification earlier this year of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD), according to Minister for Disabilities Finian McGrath. Minister McGrath marks International Day of Persons with Disabilities

Minister of State with special responsibility for disabilities, Finian McGrath TD, today marked International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Since 1992, 3rd December has been annually observed as the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. New Medical Card Measures to Remove Barriers to Work for People with Disabilities

Minister for Health Simon Harris today (Friday) announced a significant improvement to the medical card assessment process which will enable persons in receipt of a Disability Allowance payment to have a greater earnings capacity and still retain their medical card. From the 1st December 2018, the medical card earnings disregard for persons in receipt of Disability Allowance will be significantly increased, from €120 to €427 per week and will apply to the assessment process for both single persons and to family assessments.  This increase of more than 250% means that the earnings of someone in receipt of Disability Allowance that can be disregarded under the medical card assessment process has [...]

Fingal Youth Sports (Small Grant)  Scheme 2018 – Open for Applications

Are you a community, voluntary or sporting organisation working with young people based in the Fingal area? Fingal County Council Sports Office in conjunction with Sport Ireland are inviting applications for funding under the Youth Sport Small Grants Scheme (2018). This is open to Voluntary  Sporting  Organisations working with young people and based in the Fingal administrative area. Through an application form process, clubs who are affiliated recognised National Governing Body or a recognised disability organisation can apply for this grant. 14,000 additional carers are now eligible for free GP Care

Minister for Health, Simon Harris, and Minister of State for Disabilities, Finian McGrath, joined carers Moira Skelly and Rosemary Kratzchmer (both from Dublin) today at Bewley's on Grafton Street to encourage carers to register for their free GP Visit Cards at www.mymedicalcard.ie. From 1st September 2018 onwards, an additional 14,000 carers will be eligible for free GP services. Registration is now open and applies to carers who are currently in receipt of either full or half rate Carer’s Allowance or Carer’s Benefit, and who do not currently hold a medical or GP visit card. €775,000 allocated for disability projects under the Dormant Accounts Action Plan 2018
