Dublin Bus Update

Dear Mr Keating,

Thank you for agreeing to send a Dublin Bus representative to our forthcoming Dublin City Council (DCC) local area meeting.   Finian McGrath TD asked me to request (at our most recent local area council meeting) Dublin Bus attendance at our next council meeting to discuss proposed route and bus service changes in our area.

I conveyed to you in the strongest possible manner and made it very clear to you at the previous (20/09/10) DCC local area meeting, which you attended also at my instigation, that in my capacity as a public representative in the area and on the route serviced by the 20B & 27B buses that users were not at all happy with the proposals and route changes being but forward by Dublin Bus.  Prior to this area meeting I sent in a submission/questions to you which clearly outlined the problems envisaged by residents in the Whitethorn, Beauvale, Ardmore, Elm Mount, Castletimon, Kilmore, Montrose, Ardlea, Hazelwood and Maryfield areas as well their surrounds including Beaumont and Beaumont Hospital. Finian McGrath TD has also been making representations to Paddy Doherty, Dublin Bus.

While we understand that the ‘world changes’ and Dublin Bus too much often change we cannot accept the drastic changes that are being put forward by Dublin Bus. (E.g. having the 27b turn left out of Beaumont Hospital and travel along Skelly’s Lane ‘away’ from town before it resumes its original route on Ardlea Road does not make sense).  It is our strongly held belief that these plans will result in a disproportionate disruption of bus services in our locality and severely disrupt the quality of life enjoyed by many residents/bus users in the aforementioned areas.

For our forthcoming meeting I would request that the concerns of bus users which were clearly expressed to you in September be taken into account by Dublin Bus and that either a totally revised schedule is presented at our forthcoming meeting which actually improves our bus service or that the plans are scrapped altogether.

Thank you very much.

Yours Sincerely,

Damian O’Farrell
Independent Councillor DCC
