Thank you for your recent meeting and support regarding the maintenance of ESB as a publicly owned VIU.

As you will be aware a decision has now been made that the Transmission Assets which we discussed will remain with ESB. This is an important gesture of support for ESB from the Government and your representations and work to achieve this outcome is welcomed on behalf of the staff in ESB. In my view, this decision is also benefcial to consumers and the outcome is in the wider the national interest.

I would be grateful if we can stay in contact and monitor events as they progress. I suspect other threats to ESB will soon emerge and we in the Group are committed to working to achieve political support to defend ESB in this regard.
