Deputy Finian McGrath has proposed that we honour Padraig Harrington in a meaningful way. He praised and commended Padraig for his magnificent recent win in the British Open. He is a great ambassador for Ireland and our young people look up to him.

Deputy McGrath has confirmed that he has written to the Taoiseach on this issue. He also said that all politicians should revisit the idea for a national honours system to recognise Irish people who achieve on the international stage. Many people outside golf are also extremely proud of Padraig Harrington.

We should also honour our Olympic Athletes particularly the boxers who were magnificent in Beijing. They did us proud.
