Raheny Update
Tuesday, 29 June 2010 00:00

I seek the adjournment of the Dail under Standing Order 32 to raise an issue of national and importance, namely, the urgent need to support St. Michael’s senior national school in Raheny, Dublin 5, and its new building project which has been assigned a priority band rating of 1.2; and call on the Government to make this matter a priority issue.

St Michael's Senior National School, Raheny Update

To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Education and Skills if she will support a new building project in a school (details supplied) in Dublin 5.

Freagra

The project to which the Deputy refers is currently at an advanced stage of architectural planning. The project has been assigned a priority band rating of 1.2.

The project was authorised to commence stage 2(b) of architectural planning earlier this year. Work on the stage 2(b) submission is ongoing and I understand that notification of the final grant of planning permission was received in June.

The Deputy will understand that it is not possible to advance all projects to tender at the same time. This project was not included in the announcement in February of this year of projects to proceed to tender and construction.

The progression of all large scale building projects, including this project, from initial design stage through to construction is dependent on the prioritisation of competing demands on the funding available under my Department's capital budget.

The proposed building project will be considered in the context of the Department's multi-annual School Building and Modernisation Programme for 2011 and subsequent years. However, in light of current competing demands on the capital budget of the Department, it is not possible to give an indicative timeframe for the progression of this project to tender and construction at this time.
