SAVE BAY VIEW
Dear Resident,
Last week I spoke to a member of senior management in Dublin City Council (DCC) and I asked him "If after the construction of the proposed Clontarf Flood Defence Project a person was either walking, cycling or driving along Clontarf Road between Alfie Byrne Rd ( opp Clontarf Garda Station) and the W Mden Bridge along-Clontarf Road (3krns) would that person be able to see the sea across the promenade?" "No they wouldn 't be able to see water at all ' he replied.
There is a mound I barrier proposed along this stretch of promenade that will be up to 8 feet in height and never below the eye line of a pedestrian walking on Clontarf Road (permission granted in 2008 : construction due to begin shortly). Yes, we need flood protection but not at this price. I knocked on over 3 0 doors of the worst flood affected houses last Saturday and not one householder spoke in favour of the Flood Defence project as proposed. However this isn'tjust people living in Clontarf, the Northside of Dublin will be a poorer place if this project is allowed to go ahead. This week's edition of Northside People as far as I know features the project.
There is a major protest rally organised for this
Sunday 16th October at 3.00pm Wooden Bridge
Please come along with your family, neighbours and friends. (Walk down if possible). Let's send a strong message.
Regards
Damian O' Farrell Independent Councillor
