Water Crisis Update
Wednesday, 13 January 2010 23:17
To all ,

Dublin City Council is calling on the public, businesses, schools and everybody in the community to conserve water. This is because water levels
are at a critically low level and demand is at an all-time high.
The prolonged freeze over Christmas and the early days of January caused a dramatic increase in broken water mains.
The ground will move as the thaw sets in during the week beginning 11th January and this will cause further damage and breakages to the water mains, resulting in increased loss of water.

By conserving water, people can assist Dublin City Council in continuing to meet water demand. We would ask people to take the following measures:
  • Do not leave taps running
  • Report any location where water is running or rising to our Water Services Division (number and email below)
  • Only use water when necessary and in the quantities necessary
(see below for conservation tips)

Dublin City Council will be reducing pressures throughout the system in order to conserve supplies. We will try to maintain pressures during peak
demand periods but will reduce pressures at other times. Localised temporary disruptions to supply may be experienced by consumers in all
areas. While every effort will be made to maintain supplies at periods of peak demand this will not always be possible.

All areas throughout the city are at risk of reduced pressures with the higher areas having an increased risk of loss of supply.
Tankers are being deployed to those areas most affected by the pressure reductions. We regret any inconvenience caused by these restrictions and will do everything possible to minimise their scale and duration.
