Minister of State for Disability Issues, Finian McGrath T.D., was honoured to return to his political roots at Dublin City Hall, where he first elected as a councillor in 1999, to speak at the launch of malehealth.ie, an important website designed by the Irish Men’s Sheds Association. This is an organisation that encourages openness through shared activity and socialising as a method for improving men’s physical and mental health.
The website is an easy to use resource that looks to erase the stigma surrounding being a man and seeking proper medical care. The Minister pointed out in his address that “research suggests that compared to women, men have limited contact with GP’s, are reluctant users of primary care services, and often present late in the course of illness. This is a trend we need to reverse over the coming years to improve the health and wellbeing of Irish men.”
Minister McGrath thanked Irish Men’s Sheds Association leaders Barry Sheridan and George Kelly, member T.P. O’Gorman, and RTÉ’s Marty Morrissey for presenting this resource addresses the major issue that is men’s health.
