Minister McGrath addressed the Galway Advocacy Group (Brothers of Charity) Regional Meeting on Wednesday, the 20th of November 2019.

The Minister heard from a variety of fantastic speakers, discussing issues such as respite, services, accessibility and other topics in relation to disability. McGrath said of the event that “It was a pleasure to address the event and to hear what everyone had to say.” Mayor of Galway City, Mike Cubbard, Independent was also in attendance at the event and said “It was very worthwhile to hear first-hand from those involved in the Brothers of Charity”. For more insight on this event, please read below, a letter from Pat Flaherty Galway Advocacy Council Chairperson Brothers of Charity Services West Region to Minister McGrath:

Subject: Re: Ministers Visit

To Minister Finian McGrath,

I can’t thank you enough for fitting in a visit to Galway in your extremely busy schedule.

You have no idea of the impact you have made to Advocates in our Services.

We were all so motivated and energised when the meeting was over.

We never in a million years believed that you would accept our invitation and  now we believe this is the start of a journey to connect with local Councillors, who also turned up in huge numbers.

All presenters afterwards said they wanted to do more public speaking on the issues they are passionate about.

As Chairperson  for the Services, today was a huge moment for our Advocates, they have gained so much confidence, belief and motivation to continue to look for improvements for themselves and others.

Minister McGrath I know it was a long journey today for you but we really appreciate you doing it, many many many thanks for your time today. It will encourage us to keep going.

Finally one of the Advocates that you presented an award to said, “in all her time dealing with politicans you are the best by far”, that is a massive compliment for you to receive.

I want to wish you continued success in all future projects and thank you for all you have done. You have made a difference and I am so grateful you visited.

Yours sincerely,

Pat Flaherty

Galway Advocacy Council Chairperson
